On Wednesday, the Kremlin (Russia’s government) said it needs to hear from the United States about talks held in Saudi Arabia between the U.S. and Ukraine. They want this info before deciding if a suggested 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine works for Russia.
On Tuesday, Ukraine said it’s okay with a U.S. idea for a 30-day pause in fighting with Russia. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. will now bring this offer to Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow expects Rubio and White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz to fill them in soon about the Ukraine talks that happened in Jeddah on Tuesday.
Peskov also mentioned that a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump could happen if needed. He said it could be set up really fast.
During his daily chat with reporters, Peskov was asked if the 30-day ceasefire is good for Russia or if Moscow would tie it to other demands, like getting Western sanctions on Russia lifted. He said:
“You’re jumping ahead a bit. Yesterday, Rubio and Waltz told the press they’d send us details about the Jeddah talks through different ways. We need to get that info first.”
He added that Russia plans to talk with the Americans in the next few days, and they expect to get all the details then.
